just used a paragraph from a seed catalogue for this
I happened to have these two in the same room so thought I would do a comparison as I found youtube videos very useful to help choosing. I think the white noise should be ignored in these videos as I think it is down to the poor preamp on the Nikon d3200. the signal would be a lot cleaner on a better recorder. as most people will use automatic microphone levels I have let the camera decide the levels. I have not edited the audio in any way. hope this helps.
to me it seems the rode is a thinner sound best for recording environmental noises and with a strong stereo effect, the takstar seems to be better at picking up voices, has less stereo effect.
I think the rode would be best used to record events and live music (it also has a -10db function for loud places), whereas the takstar seems be best for speech.
I didn't say in the video but the first bit is from about 3ft away and the volume levels were as follows:
the first clips the volume measured as follows
takstar = -3.5db (quietest of the three)
takstar (+10db boost) = 0db (loudest of the three)
rode = -1.7db
